Manchester United have wasted no time in preparing for the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
With manager Erik ten Hag at the helm, United have enjoyed a successful season, securing a place in the Premier League’s top four and making it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. However, their hopes of winning the Europa League were dashed in the quarter-finals by Sevilla.
The Red Devils’ priorities in the transfer market are clear. They need a new striker and a restructured defence, and have already begun talks with Bayer Leverkusen to sign right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are prepared to let either Diogo Dalot or Aaron Wan-Bissaka leave this summer and want a new option at right-back. Frimpong, a former Manchester City trainee, could be that option.
United’s desire for a new striker is even more pressing, with only two senior options currently on the books – Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
Harry Kane is believed to be the leading target, with United eager to land a clinical finisher to complement their attacking options. Kane, who is Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer, has just one year left on his contract and is open to leaving the club to win trophies.
United are also reportedly interested in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who has scored 26 goals this season. However, the success of any pursuit for Kane or Osimhen will depend on how much their respective clubs demand in transfer fees.
While United are looking to bring in new players, they are also prepared to let some go. Club captain Harry Maguire and full-back Brandon Williams are reportedly among those who could be on their way out of Old Trafford this summer.
In any case, it is clear that Ten Hag and United Football Director John Murtough have two clear priorities going into what is primed to be a window of upheaval at Old Trafford.
