In a village in the Sara Buri district of central Thailand, several dogs chased a large Asian water monitor lizard up a telephone pole.
The massive lizard climbed the pole in an attempt to escape a group of stray dogs that had attacked and bitten it. However, it became stuck and had to be rescued.
After spending an hour stranded on a pole outside a house in the Mueang area, the “Tua Hia,” also known as “Tua Ngern Tua Tong,” attracted a crowd of neighborhood residents.
The residents were concerned that the animal might get electrocuted and meet the same fate as three suffering lorises in the province of Songkhla. On the other hand, they also worried that the massive creature could damage the community’s electrical system, potentially causing a power outage.
Suwit Yaemubon, the homeowner, dispatched two rescuers to retrieve the monitor lizard, but it proved to be a challenging task. The rescuers climbed a ladder, secured a rope around the lizard, and taped its mouth shut. Subsequently, they lowered the lizard, placed it on a motorcycle, and released it in an area with fewer people to prevent further attacks by stray dogs.
Suwit mentioned that he noticed the lizard while walking near his fence. Concerned that it might attempt to enter his home, he attempted to chase it away. Unfortunately, the pursuit attracted a pack of stray dogs who bit the lizard as it climbed the pole.
